On the occasion of the first "Rendez-vous de Bercy", the Minister of the Economy, Bruno Le Maire, was at the microphone of BFM Business. He particularly welcomed the decision of the 27 Member States to entrust Paris with the headquarters of the European Banking Authority.
"Paris will become one of Europe's largest financial centers, if not the biggest financial center in Europe". On the occasion of the first "Rendez-vous de Bercy", Bruno Le Maire answered to BFM Business. And he was pleased that Paris was chosen to host the European Banking Authority. For the Minister of the Economy, "this is a strong signal that shows that financial stability will be played in Paris."
Moreover, the minister has returned to this beginning of the five-year period. He recalled that the first decisions concerned the budget and the restoration of public accounts. The government has also tackled changes in the labor market and corporate taxation. "We need to make our businesses more profitable, and we need capital taxation to be lighter," he said. And Bruno Le Maire added: "Next year, we will have a law on business transformation that will aim to grow our SMEs that are today too small." According to him, "we must transform our national economic fabric so that it is more powerful with larger companies that can export to markets where there is growth".
More precisely on the "Rendez-vous de Bercy", meetings attended by personalities like the European Commissioner Margrethe Vestager or economist Jean Tirole, Bruno Le Maire says he wants "Bercy to be an open house (... ) a place for exchanges, debates ".
"Inequalities are morally unacceptable"
In his opening speech, the Minister of the Economy said: "Inequalities are morally unacceptable, they are economically stupid, and that is why we must fight them, in the name of the idea that we we make a nation and in the name of economic interest also ".
"The technological upheavals create inequalities within societies between those who are the richest and those who can not follow the movement because they do not have the training, the qualification, because they are not born in the right place, "he explained during this day devoted to" technological breakthroughs ".
For Bruno Le Maire, these "inequalities can lead gradually to the crash of the middle class". But, in his eyes, "there is no nation without a strong middle class who knows that his children will do better than parents". And he added: "We are determined to make the fight against inequality a great French fight and a great European fight. We are convinced that only the European continent today has the opportunity to carry this fight, because it is at the heart of European values," said the minister.
